Nick Edward Reed, 56, of Sandy, formerly of Clatsop County, died Saturday, April 28, 2007, in Portland.

He was born Jan. 13, 1951, in Peoria, Ill., to Cyrus Donald "Teeno" Reed and Neydine Miller Reed Pille. His mother survives, residing in Peoria. His father survives, residing in Chillicothe, Ill.

Mr. Reed graduated from the University of Colorado with a Bachelor of Arts degree, from Linfield College with a Bachelor of Science degree and from Pacific University with a master's degree in education.

Mr. Reed served in the U.S. Navy from Sept. 19,1969 to Feb. 11, 1972. He resided in Clatsop County for more than 10 years.

He married Margaret A. Craford Sept. 5, 1992, in Vancouver, Wash. She survives, residing in Sandy.

Mr. Reed was a high school social studies teacher and coach at Estacada High School from 2004 to 2007. He was in his final trimester of his administrative certification at the University of Portland at the time of his death.

He was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ in Gresham.

In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Reed is survived by a daughter, Emma Kathleen Reed of Sandy; and a brother, Richard Craig Reed of Chillicothe.

A service will be at 2 p.m. May 28 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Vancouver.

A private service for the family with military honors will be held at Willamette National Cemetery later.

Memorial contributions may be made to a scholarship fund for Emma Kathleen Reed at Washington Mutual Bank or to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Oregon, 9320 S.W. Barbur Blvd., Suite 140, Portland, OR 97219.

National Crematorium Service of Portland is in charge of the arrangements.
