Kenneth H. Patnode

Skipper, 67Kenneth H. Patnode, 67, of Hammond, died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2004, in Hammond.

Mr. Patnode was born July 18, 1937 in Yakima, Wash., to Harry and Odella Patnode.

Mr. Patnode lived in Moxee City, Wash., until 1944 when the family moved to Yakima. In 1954, he graduated from Marquette High School and joined the U.S. Coast Guard. He served for 20 years, and retired in 1972 as chief warrant officer of the Coast Guard Station, Hammond. He then skippered the vessels Surfrider and Surfrider II out of Hammond for 22 years.

On Feb. 13, 1982, he married Marsha Everson. She died in 2003.

Mr. Patnode is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Penny and Dwain Meyer of Belleville, Ill., Gretchen and Jeff Davis of Astoria and Jill and Robert Dickinson of Shelton, Wash.; one son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Rennay Patnode of Gresham; two stepdaughters and one stepson-in-law, Misty Monsen, of Warrenton and Summer and Ryan Silva of Vancouver, Wash.; seven grandsons, Justin and Tyler Meyer of Belleville, Casey Patnode of Gresham, Kodi Davis of Astoria, Alex Dickinson of Shelton, Jake Silva of Vancouver and Tyler Monsen of Warrenton; three granddaughters, Stevie Patnode of Gresham, Bailey Davis of Astoria and Sydney Dickinson of Shelton; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Beverly and Gary Van Landeghen and Marcella and Brian Nyberg all of Seattle; and many nieces and nephews.

Mass will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, at St. Mary, Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 1465 Grand Ave. Burial will follow at Fort Stevens Cemetery in Hammond.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Patnode was preceded in death by one grandson, Jay Irvin, in 1996.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary, Star of the Sea's Kitchen Fund or Lower Columbia Hospice, 2111 Exchange St., Astoria, OR 97103.

Caldwell's Luce-Layton Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
