August J. 'Augie' Schroeter
Seaside resident, 85August J. "Augie" Schroeter, 85, of Seaside, died Monday, Nov. 18, 2002, in Wheeler.
Mr. Schroeter was born Sept. 10, 1917, in Dinuba, Calif., to John and Susanna Warkentin Schroeter.
On May 19, 1940, he married Marian Elisabeth Fenenbock in Los Angeles. She died in February 2002.
Mr. Schroeter attended Bakersfield High School, where he was captain of the gymnastics team and head cheerleader. He lived in numerous locations in California, as well as in Ketchikan, Alaska, Poulsbo, Wash., and Seaside. He was a master machinist at Standard Oil and JPL where he worked on NASA's mariner rocket projects. He later earned a bachelor's degree in industrial arts at the University of California, Los Angeles and taight at Pasadena City College, Bonita High School, Orosi High School and College of the Sequoias. He then became a vocational consultant at Tulare County Organization for Vocational Education where he worked until retirement. He continued studies through the University of Washington until his late 70s. He enjoyed lapidary, geology, master gardening, and world travel. He was a lifetime member of the Masons.
He is survived by four children and spouses, Caryle and Roy Robison of Peachtree City, Ga., Lisa and Bobby McAlinden of Seaside, Therese Schroeter of St. Louis, Mo., and John A. and Jolene Schroeter of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, a daughter, Suzanne Murray, died earlier.
Memorial is 1 p.m. Saturday at Calvary Episcopal Church in Seaside.
