Wheat farmer, 93Rudolph "Rudy" or "Rute" Steinke, 93, of Warrenton, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2005, in Seaside.
Mr. Steinke was born to Herman and Caroline (Rosalie) Steinke Dec. 23, 1911, in Amboy, Minn. When he was young, he moved with his family to Idaho, then to various small towns in Oregon: Beecher Flat, Cayuse Canyon and Rock Creek. He helped raise wheat and potatoes.
Mr. Steinke then worked for Braden and Bell Tractor Company. In 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. In 1945, he was discharged from the service and returned to his parents' home.
On Nov. 1, 1946, he married Alice Flanders Hutson and took over the Steinke wheat ranches. He farmed with his three brothers, Otto, Dick and Ryan. In 1976, he retired and moved to Warrenton.
Mr. Steinke enjoyed fishing, hunting, clam digging and playing bingo.
Mr. Steinke is survived by a stepdaughter, Elizabeth "Betty" Lloyd of Diamond Bar, Calif.; a stepson and daughter-in-law, John and Lois Hutson of Warrenton; six grandchildren and their spouses, Phil and Kelly Hutson of Seaside, Marilyn and Chuck Crawford of Monroe, Wash., Caren and Brian Hawkins of Chino, Calif., Gayle Kirkland of Cortez, Colo., Brenda Lloyd of Diamond Bar and Scott Lloyd of Diamond Bar; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Hattie Wood of Roseburg and Verna Strahm of Phoenix; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m. today at Hughes-Ransom Cremation and Mortuaries in Seaside.
A service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the mortuary.
Committal will be at Ocean View Cemetery in Warrenton.
