Georgene Moskovita Swenson was an exemplary person. She lived her life faithfully, filled with confidence and hope and grace. Her vocation was to be a phenomenal wife and support to her husband, a great mother to her children and, for over 25 years, worked in the church, partnering with her husband Keith to be an evangelist and to bring growth to churches.
Born in Astoria, OR, August 20, 1944, into a fishermans family, she lived there through high school, then attended Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, WA. While there she met her husband, and she and Keith were married after his graduation from PLU in 1964. They took a road trip honeymoon to Denver, where they lived briefly before moving to Rock Island, IL, where Keith attended Lutheran School of Theology. They became house parents to 10 girls at a childrens home during those seminary years. Their first child, Mark was born during this time.
From there it was to the south side of Chicago for a years internship, and then to Great Falls, Montana, where they had their first home and church. Their second child, Randall was born there. Then it was to Seattle for a few years, and daughter Janna was born. Following were some good years in Bellingham, and then a major move to Denver, where they lived for 12 years. It was here Georgene took a major role as a member of the church staff.
They yearned to return to the Pacific Northwest, and so it was off to Tacoma, WA, working across the street from where they met at PLU. They lived and worked there for 7 years before moving for a couple of years to a suburb of Minneapolis. In 2001, the decision was made to stop work and move to their beloved condominium on the beach at Seaview, WA, where they lived for 8 years, walking the wonderful beach while also caring for her parents, who still lived in Astoria (18 miles away). During this time they began a consulting business to churches and professional leaders, Church and Clergy Resources. Georgene was vice-president and consultant.
In 2009, the decision was made to move closer to their daughter in Seattle and to medical services. Their home in Gig Harbor has been a wonderful place to be, particularly when Georgene became ill in 2010. She was cared for in that home until she died on September 3. She is survived by her mother, June Moskovita, her husband Keith, her children Mark and Janna (Wagar), five grandchildren (Bjorn and Kaja Swenson; Avery, Hayden and Ella Wagar), as well as her three sisters and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Magnolia Lutheran Church at 2414 31st Ave. W., Seattle, WA, on Friday September 13 at 1:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Magnolia Lutheran Church.
