Mary B. Jenkins, 98, of Astoria, former longtime resident of Grandview, Wash., died Friday, May 18, 2012, in Astoria.
She was born Nov. 9, 1913, to Ethel and John Bradley, in Yonkers, N.Y.
She graduated from Our Lady of Victory Academy in Tarrytown, N.Y.
In 1942, she moved to Washington, D.C.
In April 1943, she married Charles G. Jenkins. He preceded her in death.
When her husband finished his enlistment in the U.S. Navy, the couple relocated to Washington state, where Mrs. Jenkins remained until August 2011.
Family members said she enjoyed her Irish heritage and had a beautiful smile. She was quick-witted and loved playing Scrabble, Crazy Rummy and doing crossword puzzles. She also enjoyed writing to her Irish pen pal.
She is survived by seven children, Chuck Jenkins and his wife, Mariann, of Lynden, Wash., Ed Jenkins and his wife, Caloha, of Grandview, Rich Jenkins of Buckley, Wash., Doris Conley and her husband, Bob, of Renton, Wash., Margaret Antilla and her husband, Bill, of Astoria, Bob Jenkins and his wife, Marie, of Long Beach, Wash., and Pam Jenkins of Yakima, Wash.; 18 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brother and sisters; a son, Bill Jenkins; and a grandson, Eric Jenkins.
A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 26, at Caldwells Luce-Layton Mortuary, 1165 Franklin Ave. in Astoria.
