Richard P. Garcia, 64, of Hammond, died Wednesday, July 17, 2013, in Newberg, Oregon.
He was born March 10, 1949, in Astoria, to Alfredo and Hazel Garcia.
On August 19, 1972, he married Andrea S. Berg in Astoria, Oregon.
Richard graduated from Warrenton High School in 1967, and then received his Associates Degree in Science for Forestry Technology from Clatsop Community College June 13, 1969. He was hired by Crown Zellerbach Logging, where he worked until its closure. He then worked for other locally owned logging companies.
In 1991, he began working with Gene Cutlip, former owner of Columbia Pacific Housewarmers, as a truck diver of home heating oil. Mr. Cutlip sold his business, and Richard was transferred with his customers to Seaside Oil, and then on to Wilcox & Flegel, where he had to retire in 2011 due to medical issues. Richard enjoyed his oil customers and they him. Customers still ask of him when ordering oil.
Richard enjoyed participating and watching sports. He played sports in high school, and was their football quarterback. He continued his involvement in sports, playing city league games and coaching for his daughters youth softball and basketball teams. He enjoyed being outdoors. He was an avid clam digger, and wood cutter. He attended the Mens Cancer Support Group in Seaside. He loved his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Andrea; three daughters and sons-in-law, Jessica and Christopher Sheppard of Red Hook, New York, Aleta and Nathan Clute of Coeur dAlene, Idaho, and Richelle and Adam Bobek of Beaverton; four grandchildren, Brian and Madalyn Sheppard and Andrew and Sydney Clute. His brothers, Charles Kobrzycki of Warrenton and Phil Kobrzycki of Grants Pass; sisters, Anita Smith of Dallas, Michelle Thomas of Sherwood, Linda Wood of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Maria Garcia of Astoria; and his mother-in-law, Ferne Berg of Hammond; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and step-mother Aida Garcia; Brother Dennis Garcia; Sister Sharon Garcia; and half-sister, Diane Pineta.
The service will be held at Mission Christian Fellowship Church, on July 27th at 2:00 p.m.
