Sgt. Jacob Guy McBroom, 27, of Copperas Cove, Texas, formerly of Seaside, died Wednesday, April 4, 2012, in Copperas Cove.
He was born Dec. 7, 1984, in Little Rock, Ark., to Raelyn Joy Crayne and Guy A. McBroom. His parents survive. His mother resides in Astoria, and his father lives in Wasilla, Alaska.
Raised in Seaside, he graduated from Seaside High School in 2003 and lived in the area until 2006, when he joined the U.S. Army as a Bradley Fighting Vehicle system maintainer.
He married Holly McBroom. She survives, residing in Pennsylvania.
Sgt. McBroom received several military awards and decorations, including a NATO Medal, two Army Commendation Medals, two Army Good Conduct Medals, a National Defense Service medal, an Afghanistan Campaign Medal with campaign star, a Global War on Terrorism Service medal, a noncommissioned Officers Professional Development Ribbon, an Army Service Ribbon, an Overseas Service Ribbon and a Driver and Mechanic Badge with Mechanic.
Family members said he loved music, being outdoors, camping, fishing, snowboarding, the Portland Trail Blazers and spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by a daughter, Lily Makayla McBroom; a brother, Jeremy Richard McBroom; a sister, Jessica Lynn McBroom; and two half-sisters, Erika and Aleece McBroom.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Marilyn and Raymond Henry Thiessen.
A military service with full honors has already been held.
A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 30, at the Cullaby Lake north shelter in Warrenton, followed by a bonfire on Del Rey Beach.
