Robert H. Jacob, better known as “Jake” to the Astoria community, passed away Sept. 10, 2018.

He was born in Astoria on April 19, 1949, to Harold and Dorothy Jacob, and is a 1967 graduate of Astoria High School. He went on to study architecture at the University of Oregon.

Jake is beloved by many for initiating projects that spurred Astoria’s resurgence and making the town become a popular tourist destination. The Cannery Pier Hotel & Spa is his most notable accomplishment.

He is survived by his daughter, Cheryl, and two grandchildren, Louis and Abby; his brother, Greg Jacob; nephew, Erik Jacob (Nigina, Sean, Sam and Henry); and his niece, Heidi Camp (Leigh, Alyssa, Avery and Amaya).

A celebration of life will be held at the Astoria Armory on Nov. 3 from 2 to 6 p.m.
