Roger Bowman

Richland, Washington

Nov. 28, 1958 — April 14, 2018

Roger Craig Bowman, 59, passed away on April 14, 2018, at Silverton Hospital in Silverton, Oregon.

Roger was born on Nov. 28, 1958, at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Astoria, Oregon, to Roger Burgoyne and Joyce Oris (Prestegard) Bowman. He grew up in Westport, Oregon, where he enjoyed deer hunting, target shooting, boating, traveling and camping with his family.

After attending college, Roger married his soulmate, Joyce Anita Manning, on Dec. 19, 1981, at the St. Patrick Catholic Church, and moved to Richland, Washington, where he lived until his passing.

Roger was known as an intelligent, inspirational, caring, dedicated and humorous man whose never-give-up attitude made him an amazing husband, father and friend. He had a mischievous smile and twinkle in his eye when he had a witty comeback or funny story to share. It was his mission to make you laugh, and he always succeeded.

He was a loving family man who made Washington state history by becoming the father of live, healthy quintuplets (one boy, four girls) in 1996.

His love for music ranged from classic country, like Johnny Cash and Merle Haggard, to ZZ Top.

He attended Clatsop Community College, Clackamas Community College and the Oregon Institute of Technology where, in 1981, he achieved his bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering.

From 1982 to 2005, Roger worked for United Nuclear Industries, Westinghouse Hanford, CH2M Hill, and finally Mission Support Alliance, all located in Richland, Washington. He was well-respected and gained a good reputation during his years of employment.

Over the years Roger donated his time to various community organizations, including Columbia Basin Disabilities Unlimited, Spinal Cord Society, Tri-City Young Marines, Kadlec Hospital, Richland Parks & Recreation T-ball, and the City of Richland ADA Committee.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Bowman of Richland, Washington; a sister, Linda Diane (Bowman) Hanselman of Westport, Oregon; his children, Matthew Bowman of Richland, Washington, Clint Bowman of Cheney, Washington, Rachel Bowman of Richland, Washington, Randi Bowman of Yemassee, South Carolina, Sierra Bowman of Key West, Florida, and Danielle (Bowman) Brown and her husband, Jared Brown, of Silverton, Oregon; his grandson, Parker Bowman of Kennewick, Washington; and numerous nieces and nephews, including Brandon Filkowski of Clatskanie, Oregon, and Kadi Filkowski of Westport, Oregon.

He was preceded in death by his mom, Joyce O. Bowman; his dad, Roger B. Bowman; his grandparents, Eugene F. and May Bowman and Sanger and Ethel Prestegard; and his niece, Kristina Filkowski.

A funeral will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2018, at 3 p.m. at Westport Community Church, 49246 Highway 30, Westport, OR 97016. A graveside service will be at the Westport Cemetery, followed by his celebration of life gathering in the church’s Fellowship Hall.

Remembrances are suggested to Tri-City Young Marines, 2839 W. Kennewick Ave. No. 155, Kennewick, WA 99336.

Arrangements are being handled by Malcom Groulx.
