American businessman Joel Barker was one quoted as saying, “Vision without action is merely a dream. Action without vision just passes the time. Vision with action can change the world.”

Truer words have seldom been spoken, and so often we engage in unproductive efforts that lead to frustrated ends because we forgot the most important part of any great project: good planning.

The Sunset Empire Park and Recreation District is looking ahead for the next three to five years and is embracing the concept of good planning by developing a strong vision plan for the future.

The development of the vision plan began with a user survey that targeted pool users and district employees. The user survey was followed by a charrette on Feb. 1, composed of district employees and community stakeholders. Then, the district board met in a work session to review the input already received and further develop the vision based on that information.

The next step in the process is to gather more input from you, the community as SEPRD looks ahead to the future. Your chance to weigh in on the new plan is coming up from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 3 in a community workshop at the Bob Chisholm Community Center.

This workshop is open to the public, and you are strongly encouraged to attend. SEPRD wants your input because it’s YOUR district!

If you’re unable to make it to the workshop May 3, fear not, for all hope is not lost. We have developed a web page devoted solely to the vision plan. It includes all of the planned changes, the newly developed “10 guidance statements” and links to the user survey results. There is even a comment form at the bottom of the page where you can submit your thoughts on the information and make recommendations.

The vision plan page can be found at: http://www.sunsetempire.com/district-vision-plan

Please take the time to look at the information and help us grow in the direction you want us to as a district. Make sure you join us at 10 a,m, Saturday, May 3 at the Bob Chisholm Community Center. We don’t simply want to pass the time; help us change the world!
