I am thrilled that the Astoria City Council has seen the need to reopen the issue of the bypass. ("City leaders grumble as 900 trucks rumble," The Daily Astorian, Aug. 23.)
The traffic through downtown Astoria is a mess. We only need a two-lane highway to connect State Highway 202 to U.S. Highway 30. It is not nessesary to move houses and make a huge highway when every other highway is two lane. Keep it simple and get it done quickly. Astoria has enough fame that we aren't in danger of extinction if some of the traffic is diverted out of downtown. Large truck traffic needs a truck route of its own. Bravo for reopening a much needed issue.
