Years ago, Cannon Beach was a fairly decent place to live. My brother and I delivered The Oregonian there for three years, Chapman Point to Haystack Rock. Mary Geritse was one of our customers.
Yes, it was a long time ago. My parents had a grocery store and gas station. Our grandparents had the main store downtown. It included the bus depot. The bus was big business in those days.
When Cannon Beach became overrun by people from California, things evidently changed. Now they propose to ban single-use plastic bags for groceries and such items (Cannon Beach supports plastic bag ban, The Daily Astorian, Jan. 5). It is not at all clear to me where they get the idea that have the authority to ban such things.
What is The Daily Astorian going to do when they decide to ban the use of single-use newsprint?
