In the coming days, the voters of Clatsop County will make choices on a number of elected positions that will have a great impact on how government runs, and how efficiently your government runs.

The office of sheriff is one of the most important elected positions and requires the most diverse amount of knowledge and leadership abilities. The sheriff must manage multiple budgets for patrol, detectives, narcotics, jail, community corrections and search and rescue, as well as ensuring all of these disciplines have proper oversight.

I know all of the candidates running for sheriff, and appreciate all of their service to Clatsop County public safety. However, I believe only your current sheriff, Tom Bergin, has the management and leadership base to perform the important functions of the office of sheriff.

I know Sheriff Bergin to be an ethical and effective leader, and the only candidate who has effectively managed the multimillion dollar budget of the Clatsop County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff Bergin is the only candidate to have executive-level management experience, and dealt directly with complex issues in front of the Oregon legislative body.

Sheriff Bergin has my respect and full confidence that he is the only candidate who holds the necessary qualities to continue to serve as your sheriff.
