In the state of Oregon a non-U.S. citizen may obtain a driver’s license. In the U.S., only a U.S. citizen in good standing may legally vote. It does not make much sense to have simultaneous voter registration when applying for a driver’s license at the Department of Motor Vehicles.

Sen. Betsy Johnson was correct in voting no on the proposal to combine the two procedures. As a registered, active Democrat and precinct committeewoman, I give Sen. Johnson my thanks, my approval and my support.
