We are a small rural community out here in Jewell, and like to honor our own and “keep it in the family.” That is why many of us find it disturbing that our school board chose to hire a consultant from Portland to conduct a superintendent search for us, without at least offering the position to our current interim principal, Larry Lockett.

It seems to me to be a direct insult to the man and all the hard work he has accomplished, by not extending him that courtesy.

I would like to apologize to Larry Lockett on behalf of our community for the insensitive way our school board has gone about this process, and hope he knows how much we honor and respect him.
