Russ Moon is the man that Columbia County can count on to serve as Columbia County Commissioner Position 2. He has been an active advocate of this community for more than 30 years, teaching school, owning a small business and serving since 2006 on the Rainier City Council. His philosophy has been to serve his community, rather than talk about it.
Most people who are critical of people or positions in government never have solutions, just comments. Moon takes the time to do the research, and then take a stand. He says what he believes, and more importantly, believes what he says. In politics, that is a rare commodity. He is not afraid to shine an honest light on positions or people who may not be in the best interest of his community.
He saved the city of Rainier more than $300,000 by finding a project manager to oversee the waste water treatment plant. He located a retired forester with 37 years of experience at Weyerhaeuser Timber Division to manage Rainier's watershed, which cut the costs significantly.
Moon also spent a year leading the special "A" street project committee by setting up local meetings with the Oregon Department of Transportation, Portland and Western Railroad, the governor's office, ODOT Rail, funding agencies, Clatskanie Public Utilities District and community leaders and business owners.
He researched a contract regarding the Enterprise Zone, reporting his findings to the city council. The research resulted in a vote to honor the agreement, which resulted in $450,000 distribution of funds from the county to the city of Rainier. These funds were badly needed to repair the water treatment plant.
In a time when politicians are more concerned about their personal agendas than the needs of their community, Russ Moon is a consistent source of honest, powerful and thoughtful ideas. Columbia County needs Russ Moon. Vote for him for Columbia County Commissioner Position 2.
