The recently passed stimulus package may or may not accomplish its goals. The president and Congress certainly are quickly doing all they can to lower expectations.

The article in The Daily Astorian assures us that our local congressmen, U.S. Reps. David Wu and Brian Baird, are enthusiastic about having voted for the bill ("One pill won't cure all the ills," Feb. 16).

As the actual provisions in the bill come out over the next few weeks, however, the question will need to be: Did they read the entire bill before they voted for it?
