North Coast communities have been struggling for years. With our rivers, ports and forests, we know better than most that Oregon is uniquely suited to export commodities. Why do we refuse to do so?

We need to move forward on planned projects to export coal from Oregon cleanly and safely. These projects will inject millions of dollars into our communities and the investment in our ports and transportation infrastructure will enable us to export other great Oregon products, too.

Northwest Oregon unemployment rates have barely budged, and yet we sit idly by while untapped job opportunities are right here in our backyard. If we do not export coal and other commodities from the Pacific Northwest, those exports and jobs will simply go elsewhere, and Oregon’s economy will continue to recede. More jobs for Oregonians means more revenue to boost shrinking school and public safety budgets.
