I am writing this letter in support of Grace Laman for board of directors for Astoria School District. I have known her for many years and find her to be very supportive of our schools and community.

She has served the public on the Astoria Parks and Recreation District board, and teaches nutrition classes at Clatsop Community College. She and her family are valuable members of our community, and additionally have two young boys in our schools.

Laman would serve the Astoria School District with integrity and intelligence. Please vote for her in this May election.

I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who attended the May 8 school board meeting in support of the School Based Health Center for the Astoria School District. Many people spoke with compassion and intelligence about the unmet health care needs of our students.

I’m especially proud of the group of high school students who showed great courage and integrity in speaking in front of a large group to the school board about the importance of the clinic to our high school students. It saddens me greatly that this important proposal, which could have positively impacted our kids, did not pass.
