Oregon shares the same geologic hazards as Japan, so their disaster highlights the dangerous folly of siting liquefied natural gas terminals in Coos Bay and Warrenton on sand spits, in tsunami zones, on a subduction fault.

The Clatsop County Commissioners correctly reversed a potentially catastrophic decision. The Oregon Senate needs to amend HB 2700 to exclude LNG-related projects. Fast-tracking these projects isn’t prudent, in the public interest, or respectful of private property rights.
