If the Astoria City Council and the planning commission think the 39th Street "lofts" represent progress, I'm aghast. "The Jetsons meet Miami Beach" comes to mind. In a word - hideous.

Hopefully, any downtown relinquishing-of-viewshed will emulate the Cannery Pier Hotel, which tries to incorporate what Astoria is and where it came from.

Fortunately, most people aren't saddled with a view of the 39th Street monstrosity.
