We read with interest the article about the Tax Day Tea Party/Republican Rally held on April 15 ("It's tea party time," The Daily Astorian, April 16), and found it confusing that Jeff Hazen, incumbent county commissioner, made a re-election speech at that forum.

It has always been my belief that people running for non-partisan offices do not speak at partisan rallies, and in particular, do not use the opportunity to attempt to raise money for their campaign. Once again, Hazen has misplaced his loyalties, and forgotten the people who elected him, in his rush to make sure his face gets in front of every camera and behind every microphone.
