Half a million dollars for a night on an army base with a redhead (“Reba price tag may reach $600,000,” The Daily Astorian, Jan. 6)? It sounds like one of those sad tales of lottery winners who lose it all, or the lyrics to a bad country song.

The centennial gave us Coxcomb Hill. I get a little sick to my stomach thinking what $500,000 could do for Astorians now and for celebrants in 3011. A premiere square in the middle of Astoria, say?
