John Kitzhaber is a governor who works with both Democrats and Republicans in our legislature to get things done. That is a rare feat in a political and media world filled with unbelievable acrimony and misinformation.

I was both pleased and relieved that he decided to run again to take the helm of this state and begin working with the legislature on Oregon’s tax issues.

Under Kitzhaber’s leadership, Oregon added almost 40,000 jobs last year. The state’s unemployment rate is the lowest in five years. He supports Senate Bill 1524 that will ensure that more Oregonians can go to college, and reduce the weighty debt load that students and parents take on. This would be a huge boost for our own Clatsop Community College.

More than 200,000 Oregonians have signed up for health care on Cover Oregon and the number is growing. Hopefully, the computer hurdles, that many other states are also suffering, will be solved soon. Citizens need to be aware that they can sign up without going on line by contacting their local Health Department and being guided by a community partner.

Recently, Kitzhaber has asked the legislature to ramp up the Clean Fuels Program to create more jobs while improving air quality and reducing carbon emissions.

We need a governor who is creative and innovative and has a track record of working with both parties. Someone who is a governor of the people. That’s John Kitzhaber. One more time.
