I have been keeping close tabs on the race for Clatsop County sheriff. Tom Bergin wants us to count on future timber dollars to fund running the new jail if that bond passes. What if we don’t get that money he is counting on? More taxes for county residents.

He believes we should vote for him because he is a young sheriff, and took a chance at running for office early in his career, and that his opponents are secure in their pensions and are approaching retirement.

In a recent newspaper article about a tort claim filed against him, Sheriff Bergin said to “bring it on” (“Tort claim filed against sheriff,” The Daily Astorian, April 19).

I am unhappy with how Bergin has been running things while he has been in office. Jim Pierce is who I will be voting for. He is realistic about the economic status of our county and he is honest and devoted to our county for all the right reasons. I urge you to vote for him for the position of Clatsop County sheriff.
