The Port of Astoria Commission did nothing wrong. The signing of the lease merely opened the Calpine LNG project up for further discussion. If this signing had not taken place, there would have been no discussion - Calpine would have walked - end of story.
The commissioners do not need to apologize for their actions. They were just doing their job: promoting economic opportunities for the area. It is not their job to pick everything to death when they first hear about it.
It has certainly been handy to blame the commissioners, though, hasn't it? Cloud the issue; keep the pot boiling. This political strategy backfired with me. I'm a lifelong resident, and I'm voting for Dan Hess, Larry Pfund and Glenn Taggart.
