Elected officials should have the health, safety and well-being of their citizens as their main focus. They should not put their own self-interests ahead of what is best for the community at large. Likewise, when the community demands support for an issue the elected officials need to support that issue.

In the up and coming election of our county commissioners, three candidates are not in support of the community on the issue of the liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility. They are Greg Peterson (District 3), Frank Orrell (District 1) and Dale Barrett (District 5).

These candidates have complete disregard for the public safety and well-being of the community to push forward their own self-interests. The citizens of Clatsop County have again and again stated through their votes and commentary that they do not want the LNG facility built in Warrenton. Yet these candidates don’t want to listen.

How many LNG accidents around the nation (Plymouth and Stevenson, Wash., San Bruno, Calif.) is it going to take for them to realize that our lives and livelihoods are in danger because of this facility? We need responsible leadership on that supports the community’s needs and issues.

If you want county commissioners who are responsible and support the needs of community vote Scott Lee (District 1), Lisa Tarabochia Clement (District 3) and Lianne Thompson (District 5) for county commissioner.
