Yamhill-Carlton 2, Astoria 1

YAMHILL - Two games in less than 24 hours was a bit much for the Astoria girls soccer team, which fell short at Yamhill-Carlton Thursday afternoon, 2-1.

The Fishermen - now 2-1 in league play - were coming off an emotional 1-0 win over Seaside late Wednesday night.

Yamhill's Tera Prosser scored a goal in each half to overcome Astoria's goal, an unassisted shot from Jordan Crownover in the 25th minute of the first half.

"It was a 50-50 game in terms of possession, but we were just physically and emotionally drained from the Seaside game," said Astoria coach Jim Flint. "Our bread and butter is in the midfield, and we struggled there. I'd like to play Yamhill again when we're fresh."

Astoria hosts Rainier Monday.
