WARRENTON - Astoria won the golf version of the Clatsop Clash Thursday afternoon, as the Fishermen girls topped Seaside by a score of 358-410 in a Cowapa League match at the Astoria Golf & Country Club.
Astoria's Katie Cokley topped all scorers with an 81, two shots ahead of Seaside's Mallory Osburn (83).
Astoria's next three golfers - Marlie Cokley (88), Arielle Stevens (94) and Chelsea Reed-Harmel (95) finished third, fourth and fifth, respectively.
Kathy Maltman (101), Alyson Fields (108), Angela West (118) and Kim Haney (119) rounded out the Seaside scoring, while Astoria's Yoorina Ko shot a 149.
TrackBluejays sweep meetWARRENTON - The Portland Lutheran High School track team left town with four victories Thursday as the Bluejays swept everything there was to sweep in a three-way dual meet at Warrenton Grade School.
Warrenton and Neah-Kah-Nie also competed, along with the Seaside junior varsity squad.
Portland Lutheran scored wins over Warrenton (62-56) and Neah-Kah-Nie (76-59) on the boys' side of the meet, while the Pirates topped the Warriors 68-57.
The Bluejays easily swept the girls meet, winning 109-24 over Warrenton and 75-57 over Neah-Kah-Nie. The Pirates defeated Warrenton 73-37.
Several Warrior athletes still turned in good marks, as Jon Diego broke his brother's senior class record with a lifetime best of 20 feet, 7 inches to win the long jump.
Diego also won the triple jump with a PR leap of 40-0 feet; and he placed second in the 100 meters in 11.88.
Elsewhere, freshman Dallas Moses was second in the 400 meters (54.84), won by Neah-Kah-Nie's Jake Jordan in 52.83.
Warrenton freshman Michael O'Casey was talked into running the 800 meters for the first time, and he won it in 2:13.00.
The Warrior girls were led by Sara Chamberlain's first place finish in the triple jump (27-3), as she continues to set PRs with every meet; and Rebecca Fisk was second in the 3,000 meters (12:30.77).
Warrenton competes in a meet at Central Linn Saturday.
