The Astoria Parks and Community Services Department is holding open gym basketball for sixth-graders through adults at Astoria High School, from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays, Oct. 15, 22 and 29, and from 1 to 3 p.m. Sundays, Oct. 5, 12, 19 and 26.

Cost is $1 per player, payable at the door. For more information, call the Parks Office at 325-7275.

4-H archery meeting slatedThe Wolf Track 4-H Archery Club is holding its first meeting of the 4-H year from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in the basement of the Astoria Elks Building. Enter through the downstairs entrance on the Exchange Street side of the building.

The meeting, for youth in fourth grade and up, will welcome last year's members and to seek new members. The class is taught by certified master instructors.

The project/program consists of archery instruction, archery games, bow and arrow tuning, the nine steps to the 10 ring, 3-D and indoor shoots, mail-in shoots with other clubs across the state, shoot records, exhibitions, demonstrations, presentations, outdoor and bow hunting skills, and county fair competition.

The first tournament is in November. Most equipment is provided for those who need it.

Fee is $11 at sign-up and $1 per week and purchase of a finger tab (if needed, approximately $8).
