Astoria 12, Central Point 2EAGLE POINT - The Astoria 13-year-old Babe Ruth All-Stars opened the Pacific Northwest Regional Tourament Wednesday with an easy 12-2 win over Central Point in pool play.

Central Point held a 2-0 lead after two innings, before Astoria erupted for six runs in the top of the third to take the lead. Behind the solid pitching of Max Johnson, Astoria racked up six more runs to end the game after five innings.

Central Point was a last-minute replacement for Wyoming, which was scheduled to play Astoria Wednesday, but dropped out of the tournament.

Astoria has today off, then will face Idaho at noon Friday. No other details were reported.
