Last place met first place Wednesday afternoon in Cowapa League baseball, and the result was a predictable big win for the first-place Astoria Fishermen.

Astoria scored early and often against Yamhill-Carlton, as the Fishermen pounded the Tigers 18-2 at Aiken Field.

Chris Leonardi and Tony Rudolfi both had three-run home runs for Astoria, which improves to 9-2 in league play. The Fishermen now have a two-game lead in the league standings, as Scappoose defeated Banks.

Carter Wallace added a double, and Frankie Leonardi and Nick Strange had two hits apiece for the Fishermen, who scored four runs in the first inning and eight in the second.

Andrew Bergeson pitched the first two innings, then turned it over to Chris Leonardi, who pitched the final three.

Astoria plays at Tillamook Friday.
