WARRENTON - Football is in the air.
At least the footballs were flying Wednesday evening at Warrenton High School, as a handful of players from Astoria and Warrenton staged a seven-on-seven scrimmage.
Local high school athletes are gearing up for the start of the fall sports season, with practices officially beginning Aug. 22.
Astoria football will hold a conditioning camp and equipment check-out Aug. 15-18. The camp runs from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. each night at Astoria High School. Players should bring cleats and running shoes.
If players need physicals, the school will be offering physicals from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Aug. 16, Aug. 18 and Aug. 23. Players must have a physical on file every two years. Please call the main office (325-3911) to make an appointment. Cost is $25.
Astoria will also host a "Parent and Squad" meeting at 6:30 p.m., Aug. 21 at John Warren Field. All players and parents need to attend this meeting to meet new additions to the Astoria High School coaching staff and to discuss team policies.
