LACEY, Wash. - The Naselle baseball team was in a must-win situation Thursday, as the Comets had to win one of two games to qualify for a three-way league playoff Saturday.

The Comets used a little luck, but they got their one victory, as they split a doubleheader, losing to Northwest Christian 14-2 before defeating Tacoma Baptist 1-0 in Game 2.

Naselle had just three hits in the win, from Matt Chavez, Casey Heagy and Alan Erickson.

They scored the game's lone run in the first inning, when courtesy runner Jesus Martinez sprinted home on a ground-out by Jason Gradt.

Matt Blain, Chavez and Heagy combined to limit the Crusaders to just four hits, with nine strikeouts.

Naselle will play Saturday (at Montesano) in a three-way playoff with North Beach and Tacoma Baptist.
