SEASIDE — A big three-run fifth inning for Scappoose lifted the Indians to a 4-2 win at Seaside Monday, in a Cowapa League baseball game.

Will Sprute went the distance on the mound for Scappoose, allowing six hits. Seaside pitchers Kevin LaCoste and Aaron Tadei also allowed just six hits.

“Scappoose earned it,” said Seaside coach Joel Dierickx. “They strung together a couple hits in the fifth inning, and we walked a couple and had an error that cost us.”

Offensively, “we had opportunities – we just didn’t get the big hit when we needed it.”

Seaside had base runners in six of the seven innings.

LaCoste was 2-for-3 at the plate, while Jake Strozzi had a double and scored a run in the fourth inning. Zach Quicke added an RBI single for one of Seaside’s two runs.

The Gulls play at Scappoose Wednesday.
