SEASIDE - Seaside is right back in the race for the state playoffs, as the Gulls defeated Banks 8-0 in a Cowapa League contest Monday at Broadway Field.

Seaside starter Mitch DeGandi went the distance on the mound, allowing just one hit (a bloop single in the second inning) with 13 strikeouts and two walks.

He struck out the side in the third and fourth innings, and opened the fifth with a seventh straight strikeout.

The Gulls held a 1-0 lead through three innings, before Mark Thysell belted a three-run homer in the fourth inning to break it open. Seaside added three runs in the fifth.

Ross Knutsen was 2-for-3 with three runs scored, and Jon Gizdavich added two hits for the Gulls, who play at Tillamook today.

Seaside (6-5) is tied for third with Scappoose, a half-game behind Yamhill-Carlton (7-5).
