MOLALLA - A long day of volleyball ended on a positive note for the Jewell Bluejays, who will advance to the state tournament for the first time in school history.

The Jays went 2-2 in the Casco League playoffs over the weekend, finishing as the fourth-place team with a 14-25, 25-20, 25-18, 25-20 win over St. Paul.

Jewell will compete in Pool 4 at the state tournament, which takes place Friday and Saturday at Springfield High School.

The Bluejays open play at 4 p.m. Friday against Dufur, followed by matches with Mapleton (6 p.m.) and Pine Eagle (8 p.m.). The top two teams from pool play advance to the championship bracket.

Jewell opened the league playoffs with a five-game win (25-13, 25-15, 13-25, 21-25, 15-13) over Willamette Valley Christian, and suffered four-games losses to Perrydale and Damascus Saturday before defeating St. Paul in the fourth-place match.
