CRESWELL — The Seaside boys golf team continues to make big strides, as the Gulls finished second in the eight-team Creswell Invitational, Tuesday at Emerald Valley Golf Course.

Seaside shot a 380 team score to finish behind Reedsport (355), and ahead of Gold Beach (387), Cottage Grove (389), Bandon (407), Oakridge (408) and Junction City (424). Creswell and McKenzie had incomplete teams.

Montana Frame of Reedsport was medalist with a two-over-par. Seaside’s Sam Hinton finished second overall with an 84 (which included a 39 on the front nine, 45 on the back), and teammate Shane Fritter tied for eighth with a 92 (46-46). Other Seaside scorers included Andrew Gooch (45-57), Trenten Meyer (47-55) and Garrett Flowers (48-54), all at 102.

“Sam had a great round today,” said Seaside coach Jim Poetsch. “Other than a quadruple bogey on the par three 17th, he did not have a score above a five. He had pars on all of the par five’s and the rest of the par three’s, which means that other than that one hole, he had nothing worse than bogey.”

Seaside returns to the course today, for a home match against Tillamook at Gearhart Golf Links.
