BANKS — La Grande and North Valley are tied for first place after one round of play in the Class 4A boys golf state tournament, which is being held at Quail Valley Golf Course near Banks.

First-round action took place Monday, with final-round action today.

La Grande and North Valley both carded 325 team scores in the first round, while Ryan Melnychuk of North Valley is the individual leader with a 5-under-par 67.

Seaside finished the first day with a 382 team score. Charlie Kloss (tied for 21st overall) leads the Gulls with a first-round 84, which included a birdie on the 11th hole, and 10 pars on the day.

Andrew Potter had a near hole-in-one on the sixth hole, and finished with a birdie.

Other first-round scores for the Gulls included Andrew Gooch (95), Potter (101), Joe Huddleston (102) and Garrett Flowers (104).
