GEARHART — Nick Nguyen of Scappoose shot a 79, and teammate Alex Lukinbeal carded an 82 to pace the Indians to a Cowapa League dual win over Seaside Tuesday in a boys golf match at the Gearhart Golf Links.

Combined, Seaside and Scappoose have won the last nine Cowapa League titles, with the Indians favored to win this year’s championship.

Scappoose had the five lowest scores of the day in Tuesday’s match. Andrew Gooch led the Gulls with an 88, followed by Shane Fritter (92), Garrett Flowers (95), Aaron Richardson (99) and Donald Zwalen (107).

“We are slowly getting better,” said Seaside coach Jim Poetsch, who was missing two regular varsity starters Tuesday. “Andrew had his best round of the year. Garrett tied his best even after taking a penalty for his ball moving after address. He was the only one that saw it and called the penalty on himself. You know you have kids with class when they are that honest.”

The Gulls host Tillamook at Gearhart Golf Links next Wednesday.
