WARRENTON - Astoria's Eugene Park fired a career-best 87 (44-43), but Tillamook escaped the Astoria Golf & Country Club with a six-stroke victory Tuesday, 384-390.

"We're making improvements, and that's encouraging," said Astoria coach Dan Foss. "Other than Eugene, we just had a few blow-up holes here and there."

Park was the medalist, while Astoria teammate Steven Baxley birdied holes nine and 11 for a 98.

Campbell Roscoe carded a 100, followed by Ronnie Stevens (105) and Sean Speer (105).

Tyler Udenby led Tillamook with a 48-44-92.

The Astoria junior varsity scored a 459-470 victory, led by Will Brooks and David Harrison (108 each). Tyler Betnar carded a 120, followed by Kenny Roman (123) and Ben Rudolph (126).

Seaside 338, Scappoose 433SCAPPOOSE - The Seaside boys golf team topped Scappoose 338-433 in a match Tuesday between the two teams that have won the last six Cowapa League titles.

Scappoose was missing Jacob Kienlen, one of the league's top golfers, and struggled to find a score to replace him. Seaside's Lujac Desautel was medalist and led a balanced attack for the Gulls with an 81.

Peter Scruggs and Charlie Kloss had a pair of 85s and John Schmidt shot an 87 to complete the scoring for Seaside. Mark Ulbricht was the fifth player and shot a 93. Jacob Davison led Scappoose with a 94.

"It is always good to get a victory in league play," Seaside coach Jim Poetsch said. "All five guys are starting to get more consistent. I feel we are getting a little better each week and we should start putting up some really good numbers. Lujac had 10 pars and nothing worse than a bogie until the last hole. I think he started looking at his finishing score before he was done and put a little pressure on himself."
