CASTLE ROCK - The Lady Rockets lucky number against Ilwaco is no doubt 18 as they exploded for an 18-1 Trico League victory Friday over the Lady Fishermen after twice plating 18 runs in a doubleheader sweep the day before. The contest was again shortened by the 15-run mercy rule.
Ilwaco scored its lone tally in the third frame when Logan Manecke launched a triple off the Lady Rockets third pitcher of the series. On a close play at third base the throw bounced off Manecke and into the dugout for a run-scoring error. The Lady Fishermen managed four hits with Kady Kirby going 2-2 and Kelsey Madsen also smacking a single.
Coach Rick Bishop said, "In both of their eight-run innings we gave up four hits and four walks, but in both innings it was two crucial errors that opened the door for them to score eight runs each time. Castle Rock is one of the top three teams in the state along with Onalaska and Montesano. They psych you out, wear you down, and then pound the ball when you don't play a solid inning defensively."
Ashley Tapio made a great running catch in left centerfield on a sinking line drive according to Bishop. Ilwaco falls to 4-4 in the Trico and 6-5 overall, while the Lady Rockets are on top of the league with a 9-0 mark and they are 11-1 for the season.
