Indians defeat NaselleSOUTH BEND, Wash. - The Naselle Comettes suffered their first league loss of the season Thursday night at South Bend - and it was costly.
The Indians went into the match with a 7-1 record, one game behind the unbeaten (8-0) Comettes.
South Bend's 25-20, 25-23, 25-19 victory dropped the Comettes into a three-way tie for first place along with Willapa Valley in the Pacific League standings.
And since Valley defeated South Bend, South Bend defeated Naselle, and Naselle defeated Valley, the tie will be broken with a three-way playoff Monday at Raymond, Wash. (time TBA).
The playoff will be for seeding, and all three will take part in the district playoffs.
Jays win playoffST. PAUL - Spurred on by a large contingent of their own fans, the Jewell volleyball team outlasted St. Paul in a marathon sub-district playoff match Thursday night, 17-25, 25-18, 25-19, 24-26, 16-14.
"It was spectacular volleyball," said Jewell coach Ashley Weller, who will take her team to the district playoffs Saturday at North Clackamas. "We were strong, offensively and defensively, and everybody played well. The final game was even the whole way."
Jewell will play at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, likely against Damascus.
