SEASIDE — Banks and Tilla-mook – by and large – were the preseason favorites in Cowapa League girls basketball.

But the Seaside Lady Gulls may just soar past both, following their performance Friday night at home.

In one of their most impressive displays of the season, the Gulls dominated 10th-ranked Tillamook from start to finish in a 49-25 victory over the previously undefeated Mooks.

“It’s a very big win,” said Seaside’s Emily Becker, who scored 13 points, along with teammate Riley Tadei. “Tillamook is one of the best teams in our league, and it took a lot for us to go out there and give it our all, and just play a good game. We really needed this, to carry on with our season and hopefully be the Cowapa League champions.”

Becker scored off a steal and converted a three-point play to spark an 11-0 run midway through the first half, and the Gulls were never threatened after that.

Tadei capped the run with a 3-pointer, and Becker added a pair of scores to finish the first half.

“We came in confident,” Becker said. “We were coming off a win over Astoria, and we just wanted to keep improving. We were real confident tonight, and I think it showed.”

Seaside had 22 steals and forced 32 turnovers. Celeste Scougall, Sophie LaCoste and Tadei all had four steals apiece.
