BANKS — Another district title is in the bag, and now it’s on to state for the 15th time in the last 16 years for the Seaside girls golf team.

In addition to being the smartest team in the state (the Gulls and the Marist girls golf team were the only OSAA spring sports teams to have a 4.0 GPA), Seaside will look to add a trophy for its exploits on the course next week, when they take part in the OSAA state tournament at Eagle Crest Course in Redmond.

The Gulls wrapped up another district championship Tuesday at Quail Valley, where they finished with a 795 team score to easily top second place Scappoose (919) and third place Astoria (998).

Seaside junior Katy Kawasoe was district medalist for the third year in a row, as she carded an 88 in Tuesday’s final round.

With Monday’s 81, she finished with a 169, well ahead of second place Syrina Revis of Scappoose and Ashley Bassett of Seaside, who tied for second with two-round totals of 201.

Seaside’s Gabrielle Griffin was fourth overall with a 210, followed by teammate Emma Hassan in fifth with a 215. Astoria freshman Chloee Hunt was sixth overall at 232.

Rounding out the Seaside scores was Kyna Lin (269), while other golfers for the?Lady Fishermen were Kelsie Hoppes (245), Ally Bentley (258), Justine Qualls (263) and Megan Sparks (325).

The state tournament takes place next Monday and Tuesday.
