YAMHILL — Astoria’s Marina Oman scored two second-half goals to highlight a 3-1 win for the Lady Fishermen girls soccer team, in a Cowapa League opener at Yamhill-Carlton.

Astoria led 1-0 at halftime, then “created more opportunities in the second half,” said coach Jerry Boisvert. “I was really pleased with the possession time, and even though (the Tigers) really pressured the ball, we were able to string passes together.”

The Fishermen scored nine minutes into the contest, as Oman sent a long ball down the right side to Emma Englund, who crossed a ball to the center, where it went over the Yamhill keeper and into the goal.

In the 53rd minute, Astoria’s Kaisa Johnson broke up a play at midfield and got the ball to Oman, who scored in a one-on-one with the keeper.

Megan Hawkins of Yamhill scored in the 63rd minute, but Astoria answered with a goal in the 70th minute, when Kjirsten Fastabend sent a short, high pass to Oman, who scored in another one-on-one play.

Taylor Mickle sparked Astoria’s play at both ends of the field, and was named the team’s Player of the Game, along with Englund.
