SCAPPOOSE - After settling for a 0-0 tie with Astoria last week, the Scappoose girls soccer team was nearly held scoreless by another North Coast team Wednesday night.
Scappoose and Seaside were locked in a scoreless tie through one half of play in their Cowapa League match before the Indians broke through with three goals in the second half for a 3-0 win over the Gulls.
The Indians found the net just three minutes into the second half when Lacey Maloney took a crossing pass from the right side along the goal line and scored.
On a similar play from the left side, Shaylee McGuire scored in the 50th minute for a 2-0 lead.
The Indians made it 3-nil in the 65th minute, as sophomore Charlie Davidson took a ball up the middle and scored.
Still, "it was a very good game, and I was real happy with how we played," said Seaside coach Dave Rouse. "We had several scoring opportunities in both halves, and we played some super, super defense.
"Ashlynn (Yokoyama), Brianna Babbitt, Char (Blakesley) and Steph Camberg all had big games, and Allison Bussert made some outstanding saves in goal. We made some big progress tonight."
Seaside finishes the regular season Monday at Banks before playing a Regional Play-In game later in the week.
