SEASIDE — It’s been a while since the Scappoose girls soccer team scored an “upset” victory in Cowapa League play, but that’s what it was technically called Thursday night at Broadway Field in Seaside.

The Indians (2-3 coming in) scored a 2-0 win over the Gulls, who came in ranked No. 3 in the state with a 4-0-1 record.

“The game was intense and full of good soccer,” said Seaside coach Dave Rouse. “Scappoose came out with some good possession, but Seaside adjusted to the faster pace from its last two games and earned it’s own share of possession.”

Seaside keeper Allison Bussert had to make one diving save to prevent a goal by Scappoose’s Lucy Davidson in the first half, but other than that, Seaside’s defense held firm. Both teams had four shots on goal in a scoreless first half.

Scappoose was awarded a free kick 13 minutes into the second half, following a handball just outside the penalty area. Davidson took the kick, with the ball sneaking inside the left post.

A loose ball in the penalty area in the 29th minute resulted in another goal for Davidson.

Seaside hit the crossbar twice in the second half, but couldn’t find the back of the net. Both teams ended with 12 shots.
