MOLALLA — Fresh off a 1-1 tie with two-time defending state champion Gladstone Tuesday, the Seaside girls soccer team scored another confidence-builder Thursday with a 3-0 win at Molalla.

Hannah Garhofer scored all three goals for Seaside, and teammate Bridgette Malone had two assists.

The Seaside defense, sparked by Brianna Babbitt, had a strong performance in shutting out one of the better soccer programs at the 4A level (Molalla finished last year ranked No. 5 in the state).

Garhofer scored just six minutes into the game with a 30-yard shot from the right side of the field, off a pass from Sophia Trevino, who delivered the ball from the right touch line.

Garhofer scored her second goal 20 minutes into the second half, as she took a pass from Malone outside the penalty area, took a couple of touches toward the goal and delivered a hard shot past the keeper.

She completed the hat trick in the closing minutes, with a 35-yard attempt off a throw-in from Malone.

The Gulls improve to 2-0-1 on the season, and play at Estacada Tuesday.

No score was reported from Molalla at Seaside boys soccer.
